Final Reflection

06-12-13

Since the beginning of the year, I've been working hard in PE, and I think that I've improved significantly. I've become more comfortable with the class and compared to my previous years in PE, I've been much more involved and motivated. In the beginning of the year, I was very hesitant to whether I should participate or not. However, as the school year went by, I got to know my peer better and became much more comfortable. Since then, I've been participating in almost all of the activities that we do. Even if I don't like what we're doing, I always give it a shot and try my best. Furthermore, I've also reached the goals that I had set for this year and I'm starting to see PE in a different (and positive) perspective.

Throughout the whole year, I've never forgotten my PE strip, and I'm always ready to take part in the activities. As far as I know, I've only missed class twice or three times- but I was excused every time. I always put in my best effort, but there are certain days when I'm feeling lazy and I don't want to try. However, my friends always encourage me and whenever I see them trying their best, it makes me want to join in as well! I always work hard during fitness, in fact, I've improved a lot since the beginning of the year. At that time, I didn't think it'd be possible for me to run without stopping on the community or 25 minute run. However, I realized that by trying, it is possible. I went from taking almost 30 minutes on the community run to only 23 minutes. Furthermore, I only ran about 5 1/2 laps at the beginning of the year for the 25 minute run, but on our last 25 minute run, I ended up running 7 laps. Also, my beep test results, as shown in my last post, have changed- maybe not by a whole lot, but it's still some improvement. I'm glad to know that I can do anything if I try and that all it takes is that extra ounce of effort. Even if it means being sweaty, or sore the next day, it's always rewarding to know that you were able to achieve your goals. And I'm happy that I reached my goal of getting past the whole "I'm tired" excuses.

This year has changed me a lot. The years prior to this one, I was always lazy and I hated PE. But now, I actually enjoy it, and I really like fitness. I've started to take responsibility for my own fitness and I've started to eat healthier. Moreover, since the beginning of the year, I've started to work out in my own spare time. I go for runs after school sometimes, or in the morning on weekends. Years ago, I would have hated it, but now, I find it relaxing and fun to go for runs. Also, I've started to participate more, and not only by playing the games we do, but also by encouraging others. I used to always stand around and talk to my friends whenever I had PE, but this year has caused me to change that. I've started to partake in the activities more, and I've become more open minded. I've realized that it doesn't matter whether you're good at a game or not, because there's always going to be people better than you, so why not just try & have fun? After all, PE is benefiting you, not anyone else. Likewise, my eating habits have changed as well. I used to eat a lot of fast food. In fact, last summer, when I was in Korea, I ate Burger King at least once a day for two months. However, I've cut out fast food, along with other junk such as candy, chips and soda. Whenever I crave something sweet, I always rely on fruits and yogurt to satisfy my cravings. Also, I've been incorporating more colour onto my plate and I've cut out refine carbohydrates as well. On top of that, I've been drinking water more frequently. I used to only drink about 2 glasses of water, but now, I drink about 5 cups a day.

In conclusion, I've learnt a lot of things about myself this year. And despite the fact that I've reached my goals this year, I still have several things I want to improve on for next year. Firstly, I'd love to be able to get past 7 laps on the 25 minute run. To do this, I'm going to continue to go for runs during the summer. Also, I hope that I can become more confident in PE, as well as stay healthy and motivated. I think that this year has been a very successful year for me, and I can't help but feel sad that this year is coming to an end in a week. I hope to be even more successful next year, and continue to improve!

I think that I would deserve an A for PE this year.

Hill Run

06-05-13

For fitness on Tuesday, we went to City Hall to do the hill run. The hill run is probably one of my least favourite fitness activities, because I find it boring. However, the weather was great so I didn't really mind. This time we did it differently. Instead of running to the first, second and third row of cones 8 times and taking breaks in between every time we finished a set of 8, we had to go to the first row, second then third and we would get to rest. I found it much easier to do the hill run because we got frequent breaks. Also, I didn't skip or rest for any of them, so I ended up doing the full thing. At the end, I was sweating a lot, but my legs weren't as weak as I thought they would be. In fact, I felt like I could keep going for a bit longer. When we were counting our heartbeats, I counted around 86 (?) beats (I remember counting past 80 or 90, but I don't remember the exact number). Overall, the hill run was alright & I was pretty tired afterwards.

Beep Test

05-31-13

Today, we did our final beep test of the year for fitness. When I started the beep test, I felt pretty nervous, because I wasn't sure if I could beat my last beep test score (8.2). Fortunately, I was lucky enough to get past the beep test mark prior to the one I got today. In all honesty, I think I could have reached a higher level if I had eaten. So I was slightly disappointed that I only got up to 8.3, however, there's always next year! Although my beep test mark improved slightly, everything else that I did improved by a significant amount.

Before:

Body Press (w/o stopping): 7
Body Bridge: 1:05
T-Test: 14 seconds
Sit & Reach (level): 1
Board (touches/30 secs): 15

Today:

Body Press (w/o stopping): 10
Body Bridge: 1:14
T-Test: 12.2 seconds
Sit & Reach (level): 2
Board (touches/30 secs): 11

Also, here's a picture of Nadia & I doing the body presses/push ups.

Hide & Seek Tag

05-29-13

A week ago or two, we played 'Hide & Seek Tag' in PE. In my opinion, this is one of the most fun things we've done all year. I loved how I got this rush of energy, and I felt determined to not get caught. Everyone else seemed to enjoy the game as well- it was definitely fun. I almost always hid deep in the forest so that no one would be able to catch me since there were a lot of thorns and so forth. Plus, it was easy for me to get by since I'm pretty quick on my feet and I'm used to running through forests. In the end, I got caught, but I still have tons of fun. I hope we can play it again soon since it's one of my favourite activities!

Extended Community Run

05-07-13For fitness today, we had to do the extended community run- which is one of my favourite things to do on fitness days. As usual, during the beginning, I didn't run much. I alternated from jogging to walking until I got up the hill. After the hill, I jogged the rest of the run, and only stopped three or four times! I was pretty happy about that because I didn't eat lunch and I didn't think I'd be able to do it. However, I think that motivated me to work harder because I was scared that I would come in last. Surprisingly, I wasn't as tired as I was when we did the extended community run for the first time. Although my legs felt like jello (and they still do..), I really enjoyed it! It was nice to go for a run on a sunny day while the wind was blowing~

Midterm Reflection

04-11-13
Midterm Reflection

We're almost half way through second semester, and I'm starting to enjoy P.E a lot more than I did, compared to the beginning of the year. I think that I'm starting to participate a lot more during class. Lately, our P.E classes consisted of us going outside and playing games. I really enjoyed them! I really liked playing Ultimate (despite the weather), and it was really fun playing hockey with just the girls. Out of everything that we've done this semester, I think those two were the most enjoyable games. I found myself really wanting to participate, and I did! During Ultimate, I worked with my teammates to score and it was fun. Unfortunately, we only ended up scoring once or so, but I still really enjoyed the game. :) During hockey, I didn't get to participate as much as I had hoped to. There was only one ball and there were 12 (?) girls playing, so it was slightly more challenging to get the ball. However, I still got several chances to score and it was really enjoyable, especially since it was an all girls game! Another goal that I've recently set is to start participating on non-fitness days more. I hope that we'll continue to play fun games on days that aren't fitness!

Also, I don't have any pictures for evidence, but I do other activities outside of school as well. Ever since this year, I've been putting in more effort to take care of my fitness compared to last year. During the fall and winter, I found a youtuber and started doing a few of her workout videos. Other days, I would just run in the living room for 20-40 minutes. Ever since spring breaks started, I've been going on runs with my father on a daily basis (excluding the days that I have too much homework/have a test to study for). We usually run for an hour or an hour and a half. Also, I sometimes walk to school, and I always walk back home with either a friend or by myself. (I'm not sure if that would count as an activity outside of school though..)

As for a letter grade, I think that I would deserve a high B or maybe even a low A.

Interm Report

03-06-13
Interm Report

I'm always prepared and willing to participate in activities. I bring a positive attitude to class and try my best. However, on days that I'm sick or tired, I don't try as hard. But generally, I put in a lot of effort. I think that P.E is a fun class and I really enjoy it. On the other hand, I'm not great at sports, but I still try and play to my best abilities. One of my goals for the end of this semester is to become better at sports. I hope to improve my ability to play sports and games by the end of this year. I think I can improve by trying to participate more! Overall, I think that I'm making good progress on P.E!
